WILMINGTON, Del. - The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will be hosting its free 27th annual Breast Cancer Update, 'Breast Cancer: The State We're In' on May 14 from 8 a.m. to noon through Zoom.

DBCC says keynote speaker Dr. Scott Siegel will focus on Delaware being the highest-ranking state in the country for cases of Triple Negative Breast Cancer among black women. Dr. Siegel's presentation will cover the 'Triple Negative Breast Cancer Population Health Research', providing insight into why TNBC is prominent among black women.

DBCC notes that TNBC is often harder to treat and is more aggressive than other forms of breast cancer. And while TNBC more frequently affects black women, it can develop in people of all races, and they hope that this conference will shed light into the importance of early detection.

The program will also feature sessions regarding genetic testing, breast cancer screening recommendations, and a Nutrition and Survivorship to end the meeting.

According to DBCC, the earlier breast cancer is detected, the more treatment options will be available to patients, thus providing better outcomes. And their goal with this conference is to inform communities that regular screening and early detection can save lives.

Lauren Balcerak, the development manager at DBCC, hopes to continue to serve Delaware communities and provide ongoing support.

"Having offered this crucial educational event free for over 26 years through community support, we at DBCC anticipate welcoming hundreds of participants, including survivors, caregivers, medical providers, students, and the public," said Balcerak. "To ensure DBCC continues to serve the breast cancer community, your ongoing support is essential."
