GEORGETOWN, Del. - Jane Hovington will be the Democratic nominee in the upcoming special election to fill the vacancy in House District 37. The seat was opened last week when former Rep. Ruth Briggs King moved out of the district.
Hovington has lived in Georgetown for more 35 years. She has previously served on the Georgetown Town Council and in the Sussex County branch of the NAACP. Now she is the current chair of the Sussex County Democratic Party and the chair of the Georgetown's Board of Adjustment.
The Delaware Democratic Party said Hovington has demonstrated a deep commitment to community service and advocacy.
"I have called this community home for almost my entire life, and it is my deep-rooted commitment to its residents that propels me into this race," said Hovington. "Throughout my career, I've fought to strengthen our public education system and ensure services and support reach the most vulnerable members of our community. I plan to continue that fight in Dover."
The election will take place Dec. 21 from 7 to 8 a.m. at assigned polling locations. The first day of early voting is Dec. 8.
