SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - Todd Mumford, a Delaware Probation and Parole Officer, who also served as Vice President of the State Fraternal Order of Police died Wednesday night on Nov. 15 in an off-duty accident.

Facebook posts published by several FOP Lodges confirmed Mumford's death, but did not detail how the accident occured.

Senior Probation Officer Todd Mumford joined the Delaware Department of Correction as a Probation Officer in the year 2000 of November. According to the department, he did 23 years of service.

The department says he worked his entire career in Sussex County, first at the Sussex Work Release Center and most recently and currently at the Georgetown Probation and Parole District Office.

He began his public career as an Officer for Milton Police Department and Rehoboth Police Department.

Acting Department of Correction Commissioner Terra Taylor made a statement about Mumford's death saying, "Todd was 100% committed to public safety and to helping others.  He believed passionately in the Probation & Parole mission and he worked hard on the job as an Officer and as a leader in the Fraternal Order of Police to advocate for the resources and support that was needed to meet that mission and to effectively serve the public.  I have known and worked with Todd for more than twenty years and I saw first-hand how his personal effort and dedication earned him true respect and many friendships among his peers across the Department of Correction and law enforcement and among community partners.  He will be deeply missed."
