The Delaware State Police is accepting applications through Aug. 28 for its 2026 Citizens Police Academy in Sussex County, a nine-week program offering participants an inside look at police operations and training.

LEWES, Del. — The Delaware State Police is accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens Police Academy in Sussex County, with the nine-week program set to begin Sept. 16.

The academy will run through Nov. 11, with two-hour sessions held Wednesday evenings, primarily at Delaware State Police Troop 7 on Mulberry Knoll Road in Lewes.

Participants will learn about a range of police operations, including evidence processing, criminal and traffic investigations and the work of specialized units. The program also includes tours of state police facilities and opportunities to ride along with patrol troopers.

The academy is limited to 20 participants, and all applicants will undergo background checks.

Applications will be accepted through Aug. 28 and are available through the Citizens Police Academy section of the Delaware State Police website.
