Dewey Beach police helped revive a man Thursday night after responding to a CPR call, authorities said.

DEWEY BEACH,Ā Del. -Ā The Dewey Beach Police Department helped save a man’s life Thursday night after responding to a CPR-in-progress call, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. to a home on Saulsbury Street, where they found an off-duty firefighter performing CPR on an unresponsive adult male on the front porch, police said.

A Dewey Beach officer used an automated external defibrillator, which delivered two shocks before detecting a pulse, according to the department.

Emergency medical personnel from the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Sussex County EMS arrived shortly after and took over care. The man was taken to Beebe HospitalĀ for evaluation and treatment.
