Effort to clarify dogs on the beach rule during the summer in Dewey Beach

Town officials in Dewey Beach say that Dewey is a dog friendly town, and they plan on keeping it that way. In the past, the town says there has been some confusion as to when dogs are allowed on the beach during the summer.

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – In a move celebrated by dog owners and beach lovers alike, Dewey Beach Town Council has announced an expansion of beach access for dogs. This decision, made during last month’s Town Council meeting, extends the period during which dogs can enjoy the beach without time restrictions.

Previously, the beach was open to dogs any time of the day from September 16th through May 14th. However, during the summer season, access was limited to specific hours. With the new ruling, effective immediately, dogs will now have unrestricted access from the Sunday following Labor Day Weekend, through the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend.

According to the town, the decision reflects the community's ongoing commitment to being a pet-friendly destination and acknowledges the importance of pets in the lives of residents and visitors.

As the new policy takes effect, the town reminds visitors to adhere to local regulations regarding leash laws and waste disposal to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

For more information on the updated dog beach access policy and other town ordinances, residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the Dewey Beach Town Council website or contact the local authorities.
