The Lewes Fire Department says crews responded to the storm drain behind the outlet complex in the Midway area just before 10:30 p.m. There, a mother duck was pacing near the grate. According to fire crews, the baby ducklings had slipped through the opening and were stuck below.

Crews worked carefully to calm the distressed mother duck before removing the grate and using an attic ladder to reach the ducklings individually. All six were safely rescued and quickly reunited with their mother.
