DELMAR, Md. - A fire broke out Tuesday morning at a Delmar pallet business, damaging a large commercial building and causing an estimated $380,000 in total losses.
The fire happened around 11:39 a.m. at Kings Mulch and Pallets, located at 29729 Foskey Lane. According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the fire started inside a building and employees were the first to discover the fire.
The Delmar Fire Department responded with approximately 25 firefighters and was able to control the fire within 30 minutes. There were no reported injuries or deaths said the marshal. Investigators say the building did not have smoke detectors, fire alarms or a sprinkler system installed.
While the preliminary cause remains under investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s Office says investigators are looking into the possibility that sawing operations on wooden pallets, which were underway shortly before the fire was discovered, could have caused the flames.
The fire created an estimated $260,000 in damage to the structure and an additional $120,000 in damage to its contents.
