SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - "Snacks for Success," a healthy snack food drive for local students in our area, is taking place through Friday.
The drive aims to assist those who are food-deprived.
Adeline Faga, a Sussex Technical High School sophomore, has participated in the Pathways to Success program for approximately two months. She finds the food drive emotionally significant.
"Many people come [to school] hungry. They don't really live a perfect circumstance at home where there's a lot provided, so when they have all of this in front of them, they feel like they're home because school could bring them peace and sincere, you know, warm to them," Faga said.
Sarah Gilmour, outreach and development manager at Pathways to Success, helps local students remain on track to graduate from high school by providing resources and organizing events like this food drive. According to Gilmour, nearly 300 students in Sussex County will benefit from this initiative.
"It's unbelievable how much they need food. We have kids that come to their Pathways to Success group, and the first thing they ask for is a snack because they may have not had dinner the night before, breakfast that morning," Gilmour said.
Faga expressed gratitude for the community's support.
"Keep, you know, supporting this food drive and continue to keep donating and giving to others because you never know what anyone's going through out there because there could be like a starving feeling," she said.
Donations can be dropped off at Jeanine O'Donnell's State Farm office, the Sussex County Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and the Georgetown Public Library.
