DELMARVA - As temperatures soar across inland Delmarva, a heat advisory has locals finding creative ways to stay cool and keep their communities green.
In Milton, volunteers like Louise Huntley with the Milton Garden Club continue their outdoor work despite the sweltering heat.
“It’s kind of indicative of what Milton, a small town, is like,” Huntley said, as she pulled weeds in the park.
According to CoastTV meteorologists, a heat advisory is in place for much of the region, with humidity making it feel like temperatures are exceeding 100 degrees.
Huntley says that just how she stays hydrated and in the shade, the plants need that too.
"Every day somebody comes by, we can kind of check to make sure that they get sufficient moisture," said Huntley.
Further south in Ocean City, beachgoers are leaning on air conditioning and sunscreen to get through the day.
“We’re kind of just staying inside, playing with the arcade,” said Kenny Hoffman. I put on a lot of sunblock. I need sunblock. I burn and I just drink a whole bunch of water just to stay hydrated."
The heat advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m., though a change in weather is expected as the week moves forward, with rain and cooler temperatures forecasted.
