Hydrant flushing

SMYRNA, Del. - The town of Smyrna has announced that hydrant flushing and flow testing is scheduled during the week of Monday, Oct. 16.

The town says the dates for flushing and testing include:

  • Monday, Oct 16.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 17
  • Wednesday, Oct 18
  • Thursday, Oct. 19

According to the town, water department personnel will be hydrant flushing and flow testing those days between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

The town says that this process is "necessary to purge our water system and to provide quality water to our residents."

Customers should be advised of the process, as the town says muddy and rusty water may occur shortly after the process is complete. The town says if this does occur, homeowners can simply open water faucets and run their dishwashers empty through one cycle to purge the system of discolored water.

In case of inclement weather, the town says postponed dates include:

  • Monday, Oct. 23
  • Tuesday, Oct. 24
  • Wednesday, Oct. 25
  • Thursday, Oct. 26
