RIDGELY, Md — The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for an attempted arson at Murphy’s Transport in Ridgely.

On July 7, owner Bryan Saathoff discovered extensive fire damage inside one truck at the business, located at 421 West Belle Road. Upon further inspection, he found that multiple vehicles had been targeted.

Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the fires were deliberately set but failed to fully ignite, preventing more widespread destruction. The total damage is estimated at approximately $100,000.

Saathoff contacted Maryland State Police, who then alerted the State Fire Marshal’s Upper Eastern Regional Office, which is now leading the investigation.

No arrests have been made. Investigators are working to identify the person or people involved and are urging anyone with information to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 410-819-3500.
