Marijuana

Marijuana is a hot topic around southern Delaware.

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Seaford and Lewes are both tackling marijuana in town limits this week, but unlike many other towns, neither are solely considering an outright ban.

According to an agenda for a special meeting in Lewes on Thursday, council is discussing an ordinance that would prohibit the cultivation, testing, manufacturing, and sale of marijuana within all zoning districts. But there's also time scheduled to discuss a proposed ordinance to amend zoning regulations.

The document states the ordinance would permit cultivation and testing of marijuana in General Commercial and Industrial districts, and allow manufacturing in those districts as well as Marina Commercial. What's more, as written, the ordinance in question would permit sale of marijuana in Limited Commercial (LC), Limited Commercial - Historic (LH-C), General Commercial (GC), Marine Commercial (MC), and Industrial (I) districts.

The city of Seaford for months has weighed a similar ordinance, which would ban the drug, cultivation facilities, marijuana product manufacturing facilities, testing facilities and retail marijuana stores from the C-1 General Commercial and C-2 Highway Commercial Districts in the City of Seaford.
