LEWES, Del. - Homes in Lewes are lighting up this weekend to honor a pivotal moment in American history.
Delaware 250 has asked neighbors in Lewes to place two lights in their windows to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s legendary midnight ride during the Revolutionary War. The symbolic gesture is part of a broader weekend of remembrance and community service.
“It’s exciting,” said Janet Kennedy, a Lewes native. “We all need to be reminded how special and lucky we are. I’d love to see more of this.”
Delaware 250 coordinator Margaret Hughes said the effort is about more than just history. “By shining two lights and participating in a day of service, Delawareans are showing their commitment to community and a brighter future for all,” Hughes said.
Locals like Marty Rosenswig was dressed in colonial attire and was sharing stories with neighbors. "Just celebrating our history. And I think that's what's important," Rosenswig told CoastTV.
The celebration continues Saturday with a community bonfire at Savannah Beach from 4 to 6 p.m., according to the City of Lewes website.
