Millsboro town council moves forward on banning sale of marijuana

MILLSBORO, Del. - Millsboro town council is moving forward with its proposed ban on marijuana sales in town limits.

The council will hear the ordinance and possibly vote on the ban at its November meeting. There is also a public hearing scheduled to discuss the change of the zoning code for if this motion passes.

Some neighbors who spoke at the Monday night meeting voiced their concern with not allowing marijuana-related businesses in the town, with one saying this might call into question the pro-business mindset that is often used in promotional material for Millsboro, such as on its website.

Millsboro is far from the first town to choose to keep pot out of its borders. Multiple beach towns like Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach have already decided to ban marijuana sales. On the other hand, Milford did express interest allowing it last week.

Towns do have the authority to ban the sale, manufacturing and cultivation of marijuana in their jurisdictions, as stated in the bill that passed recreational pot into law.
