MILTON, Del. - Milton's Street and Sidewalks Committee will meet on Monday to discuss and possibly vote on various speed safety measures.
The three agenda items up for discussion are capital improvements plan which looks to improve the quality of the roads, portable radar signs which can be seen throughout Milton on Mulberry St. and Atlantic St. for example. The final agenda item is DelDOT's electronic speed safety program.
According to DelDOT, the program would provide automated speed enforcement in work zones or residential areas. For a violation to occur, a driver must exceed the posted speed limit by 11 miles per hour or more.
Milton local John Knapp is fine with the idea of radar signs but isn't a fan of any other forms of surveillance.
"I can see putting up one of those signs that let you know what your speed is, and it flashes when you're going too fast. But I'm totally against any kind of cameras taking your information and handing out tickets, especially in a small town or anything like that," said Knapp.
These attempts to curve speeding in the town is something Bill Pritchett finds interesting.
"We do have a problem in town from time to time with people exceeding the speed limit. It sound like good ideas that are worth pursuing. I'll reserve judgment until these ideas are channeled through the Town Council and ultimately the Mayor," Pritchett explained.
The meeting will be held at the Cannery Village Clubhouse at 6 p.m.
