Bay Bridge Crash

Maryland Transportation Authority police said at least one person was trapped in a vehicle and had to be rescued.

STEVENSVILLE, Md. — A multi-vehicle crash shut down all westbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on July 4.

The Maryland Transportation Authority reported the crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday. By 12:30 p.m., westbound travelers remained stopped on the span, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation’s website and live CHART traffic cameras.

According to our sister station in Baltimore, Maryland Transportation Authority police said at least one person was trapped in a vehicle and had to be rescued. A Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter landed on the bridge to assist, further delaying westbound travel.

No details were immediately released about possible injuries or the number of people hurt in the crash.

Traffic on the eastbound span remained open in both lanes. Travelers are urged to check traffic advisories for updates.
