New nest: Osprey claims crane in Dewey Beach, town hall project pays for a workaround

A construction project for a new Dewey Beach Town Hall has taken an unexpected turn after an osprey built a nest atop a crane at the site. The project, which will bring emergency medical services into the town for the first time, is continuing with adjustments as the construction team works around the protected bird.

Crews with Costello Construction showed up to find their crane had a new tenant an osprey nest perched right on top, catching workers a bit off guard. The company is letting the birds be through nesting season, which runs from March through September.
