* WHAT...For the first Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of
inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near
shorelines and tidal waterways. For the second Coastal Flood

expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
waterways.

* WHERE...In Delaware, Kent, Inland Sussex and Delaware Beaches.

* WHEN...For the first Coastal Flood Advisory, until midnight
EDT tonight. For the second Coastal Flood Advisory, from 7 PM

* IMPACTS...At this level, flooding begins on the most
vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along
inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are
possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Elevated tides due to the approach of the
New Moon on August 12th may lead to minor coastal flooding
during the evening high tides through Thursday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road
closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to
costly repairs.

Old Orchard Road partially closes in Lewes as Wescoats Corner realignment begins

LEWES, Del. — Old Orchard Road between East Austin Street and East Chesapeake Street is closed as construction gets underway on a project to realign the road at Wescoats Corner.

The closure is expected to remain in place through mid-September, weather permitting, according to DelDOT.

The project is part of a larger effort to improve safety and traffic flow in the Five Points area of Lewes. The realignment will remove the existing unsignalized T-intersection and add pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

For drivers, the closure means taking a detour around the construction area.

Drivers going east on Savannah Road who want to turn left onto Old Orchard Road are being directed to continue on Savannah Road, turn left onto Front Street, then left onto New Road before returning to Old Orchard Road.

Drivers going east on New Road who want to turn right onto Old Orchard Road are being directed to continue on New Road, turn right onto Pilottown Road, then right onto Savannah Road before returning to Old Orchard Road.

For businesses near the construction, the closure is raising concerns about access and parking.

Mahesh Patel, who owns Roadsters near the project, said he is worried about how the closure could affect customers and parking behind his business.

"I'm a little worried and skeptical about the road closure because there are people coming through this road, and people were parking behind the store. So if they closed the road, I don't know if they can park behind this store," Patel said.

The Old Orchard Road closure is part four of a 12-phase project, according to DelDOT's timeline. The larger project is expected to continue through September 2028.

DelDOT says the overall project will improve safety by realigning Old Orchard Road to intersect with Savannah Road opposite Wescoats Road, while also improving conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.

For Sylvia Glickman, however, safer roads also come down to the people behind the wheel.

"I think what would make things safer on the road is if nobody texts and people let each other in, you know. But ultimately, I think it's all good," Glickman said.
