Price changes for Cape May-Lewes Ferry fare on the table

LEWES, Del.- Taking a ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry may have a different price tag.

The Delaware River and Bay Authority is reviewing price increases for some fares on the ferry, and price decreases for others.

In a public hearing Wednesday night, proposed adjustments included a $1 increase for vehicles under 25 feet, $2 for cars between 25 and 44 feet, and $3 for those over 45 feet . All of these prices would be in-season. Return trip fares, however, would remain unchanged.

As for price decreases, the price for kids to ride roundtrip may go down a dollar. There was also discussion of a loyalty program for frequent riders, much like a frequent flyers reward system with commercial airlines.

Before any price changes can be implemented, they must be voted on by a board of commissioners. If any of these changes are passed, they would not go into effect until April of next year.
