Henlopen Bluff

The 79 lots would be the tenth neighborhood added to Gills Neck Road and that's on top of other individual homes.

LEWES, Del. - The proposed 'Henlopen Bluff' development started a heated, hours long, debate amongst neighbors in a recent Lewes planning and zoning meeting.

The 79 lots would be the tenth neighborhood added to Gills Neck Road and that's on top of other individual homes.

Nancy Forsyth, who has lived in Lewes since 2012, said this development would make an already troublesome traffic situation on the roadway even worse.

"I think that we are building at a pace that is outstripping our infrastructure. So it's too many houses, too much traffic on the roads without adequate thought as to how to manage all of those additional cars." said Forsyth.

However others say that the growth is inevitable for this area.

"I have a beautiful brand new home because it was built for me. So I love living here. I try to give back however possible and I'd be crazy to tell other people they couldn't come live here." said Stephen Stetler.

In the meeting Wednesday night, the developer said DelDOT's assessment of the traffic impact from this neighborhood would be "minor".

Now that the neighborhood has been to a public hearing, the Lewes Planning and Zoning Commission will need to create a recommendation for it to go to Mayor and City Council.
