REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - About a year ago, Clear Space Theatre sold its plot of land on Rehoboth Avenue, after much debate over building plans. A local realtor purchased the property, turning it into three separate spaces of property. The new addresses for the property are 413, 415, and 417 Rehoboth Ave.
On Friday, Nov. 3, the proposed plans for the project were presented to the Rehoboth Beach Planning Committee at a regular meeting. The plans call for three separate structures, all with retail spaces on the first floor and living spaces on the top.
Since the previous project for this land caused so much uproar, the attorney for the land owner explained they want to avoid all controversy and work with the city on what plans will be allowed.
Marciel Graham has lived on Sussex Street, located right behind the proposed project for about 20 years. Graham is not opposed to the project, but she hopes the businesses will be able to survive at the entrance of the city.
"To be honest, we don't have many commercial ventures on this end of town, most everything is closer to the beach so it would be interesting to see if business can come further up into this end of town," explained Graham.
The plans call for three separate structures, all with retail spaces on the first floor and living spaces on the top.
Other people who spoke with CoastTV expressed they do have concerns about the project. Linda Pollhammer lives behind Rehoboth Avenue.
"During the summer season people park here but you have to pay for it, so it's just going to be a parking challenge, or probably nightmare for the people who live here," she said.
After many delays, Clear Space Theatre has sold the three Rehoboth Avenue lots on which they were planning to build a new theater.
The attorney for the property owner said the goal of the project is to bring life to the west end of Rehoboth Avenue.
