REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The Rehoboth Public Library will host their 'Seeds n' Reads' event on April 22 and 25, both from 3 to 5 p.m.
To celebrate Earth Week, the library invites kids and families to the two-day event to learn about environmental activities like composting, planting their own mini-gardens, and participating in activities.Â
The April 22, on Earth Day, participants will discover ways to turn fruit peels into biodegradable bird feeders, sculpt their own clay chia pets, and engage in activities provided by the ROOTS Farm & Forest School including seed planting, compost dig-n-find, and a nature scavenger hunt.Â
For Arbor Day, April 25, young gardeners have the opportunity to help plant and decorate the library's new tower garden, which will roam around the library so visitors can watch their planted seeds grow. Kids can also plant, paint and take home their own mini-garden while snacking on 'worm cups', made out of chocolate or butterscotch pudding, topped with Oreo cookie crumbles, rainbow gummy worms, and graham cracker crumbs.
On both days, volunteers from the Sussex Gardeners and Village Improvement Association will be available to assist participants, give tips on home gardening, and how to get involved with other community projects.
And starting on Aprill 22, the library will be introducing its new 'Seed Library' for Rehoboth Beach locals, featuring a variety of herbs and fresh vegetables to grow. In an effort to encourage community efforts in gardening, the library will allow locals with library cards from between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays to select up to four free packets of seeds per day.
The event will take place in the library's breezeway, rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the activities will take place indoors.
