MILFORD, De- A Smyrna based company is the managing group that has purchased the Rookery North Golf Course. State Representative (R) Bryan Shupe confirmed to WRDE that Tim Johnson of Johnson Companies is taking over the property. We reached out to Johnson for comment, but he was unavailable. Some locals tell us that they are just happy it will not become another development.
"We're pretty glad that we're still going to have a golf course. We didn't want it to be a development but with it being a golf course it still gives the community things to do." said Shawn Collins.
The golf course on Broadkill Road in Milford has been unused since closing in 2020. The plan is to reopen the golf course with the addition of a restaurant. Representative Bryan Shupe said that a restaurant could come following a waiver of zoning for the property, but no names have been announced, "You know we just saw SoDel which is a great southern Delaware community company put investment in our community and this will be an additional company sort of like SoDel, same sort of quality, put another investment in Milford."
An announcement on the purchase was made last week. Click here to read that story. At the time it was unknown who had bought the golf course.
