Weather conditions on Sept, 25, 2026 have delayed the reopening of the southbound lane on DE 1 north of Lewes.

LEWES, Del. - The much-anticipated opening of a southbound lane on DE 1 near Red Mill Pond will not take place Friday. According to DelDOT, weather conditions from the nor'easter have forced the closure to continue. The new reopening date is Sept. 28, 2026.

Crews are using the lane closure to safely move barriers and complete roadwork, including paving.

The closure has led to heavy traffic congestion along a stretch of highway from Milton to the work area near Nassau.
