SALISBURY, Md.Ā -Ā The City of Salisbury is mourning the unexpected death of Senior Corporal Ryan Mitchell, a 30-year veteran of the Salisbury Police Department. Mitchell was found deceased at his home on Friday, June 20.
Senior Corporal Mitchell began his service with the department in 1995 and held a variety of roles throughout his career. He worked in the Operations Division on patrol, was a longtime member of the Tactical Unit, and served as a detective in both the Criminal Investigation Division and the Child Advocacy Center. Most recently, he served as a patrol supervisor, mentoring and supporting younger officers.
"Corporal Mitchell was a valued member of the City of Salisburyās Police Department," said Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor. "I would like to personally extend my sincere sympathies to his family. Ryan will be greatly missed."
Salisbury Police Chief Dave Meienschein also reflected on the deep impact of the loss.
"Our hearts are heavy as our SPD family mourns the passing of Senior Corporal Ryan Mitchell,ā Meienschein said. "As a 30-year veteran, he touched so many as a leader, mentor and friend. His passing creates a void that will be difficult to overcome."
The city is working closely with Mitchellās family to provide support during this difficult time. Out of respect for their privacy, no further personal details are being released at this time.
Funeral and memorial arrangements are currently being finalized. The City of Salisbury asks the community to keep Mitchellās family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn his passing in their thoughts and prayers.
