REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - An act to amend the charter of the City of Rehoboth Beach has been signed after making many changes requested by The Commissioners of the City of Rehoboth Beach.
The bill was first introduced on May 6. and passed By Senate with 21 yeses on June. 30.
Susan Stewart was elected mayor of Rehoboth Beach on Aug. 8. defeating Suzanne Goode, Craig Their, and William “Jake” Raak.
Jeffrey Goode and incumbent commissioners Patrick Gossett and Mark Saunders were the three candidates to run for two Rehoboth Beach commissioner seats.
Jeffrey Goode is the husband of Suzanne Goode. During the election, Jeffrey Goode dismissed concerns that the arrangement would give the couple too much influence.
Since then, one of the many modifications according to SB 306 is that a candidate is not a spouse, domestic partner, or cohabitant of a serving member of The Commissioners.
Some other changes to the bill includes updating the process for fixing the salaries for members of The Commissioners, increasing the maximum fine from $500 to $2,500 for violating an ordinance, and more.
