SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Seven solar farms are proposed to be built around Sussex County.
The Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission held public hearings for these proposed solar farms Thursday Night.
The proposed locations are:
- South of Kendale Road in Lewes
- Lewes-Georgetown Highway in Harbeson
- Near Old Sailor Road and Woodland Ferry Road near Laurel
- South Main Street in Bridgeville
- West Line Road in Delmar
- Cast Rite Drive in Delmar
- Old Crow Road in Delmar
According to the applicant, these farms would help provide both businesses and homes that cannot put panels on their roofs with solar energy. They said these panels are about twelve feet tall- and do not produce any waste or glare from the sun.
But some neighbors close to these proposed areas had concerns with these going close to their homes.
"I have a problem with the drawing I saw with a fence line going down my whole property line over here," said Bob Wiechardt, who lives next to the location proposed for Kendale Road. "It's going to be like a seven foot tall chain link fence. I'd like to see that moved inside a landscape berm or something like that."
Wiechardt continued to say he would rather have solar panels near his home than a housing development, however.
The planning and zoning commission did mention tonight that they have already approved numerous solar panel farms.
The planning commission decided to defer a final decision on the solar farms.
