Spring roadwork season begins in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- As spring returns, roadwork is set to resume in the City of Cambridge, with road resurfacing starting in mid-April. The project will begin with sidewalk crossing improvements on selected streets, followed by paving work that will continue through the fall. The city plans to resurface approximately 2.2 miles of road.

The city says sidewalk upgrades are necessary to meet the latest standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act. A total of 34 crosswalks will be improved before paving begins. That work is expected to take about two weeks to complete.

The resurfacing schedule is based on a 2018 Pavement Condition Study conducted by IMS, a consulting firm specializing in roadway assessments. Streets in the worst condition were given the highest priority.

The city has budgeted $600,000 for road resurfacing in the current fiscal year. David A. Bramble Company will handle additional sidewalk improvements without exceeding the allocated budget, officials said.

The paving schedule is tentative and may change due to weather conditions or unexpected road issues discovered during milling. The following streets are scheduled to be resurfaced this season (not listed in chronological order):

  • Academy Street
  • Cherry Street
  • Clifton Street
  • Dobson Street
