GEORGETOWN, Del. - Sussex County has received the Government Finance Officers Association's Triple Crown Award for the third consecutive year, according to Sussex County Adminstration.
The administration says the award is presented to governments that earn the Government Finance Officers Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award during the same year.
Sussex County said it is one of 441 local governments nationwide to receive the Triple Crown Award this year and the only Delaware government to earn the distinction.
County leaders said the recognition is the latest in a series of financial honors received over the past two decades, including an upgrade to the highest possible Aaa bond rating.
"We are proud to again receive the GFOA's distinguished Triple Crown Award," Finance Director Gina Jennings said in a statement. "This is an honor that many strive for, but few receive."
Jennings credited the county's finance staff and its longstanding approach to fiscal management for the achievement.
"Winning awards, though, is not our end goal," Jennings said. "It's just the end result, thanks to a dedicated team and a long-held philosophy to safeguard the County taxpayers' dollars and maintain the public trust."
Sussex County said the award recognizes governments that demonstrate high standards in financial reporting, budget presentation and transparency.
