GEORGETOWN, Del. - The Sussex County Vocational Technical School District has selected Dr. Jason Peel as its next superintendent. The Board of Education approved the appointment during its July 1 meeting.
Peel succeeds Dr. Kevin Carson, who announced his retirement in April.
Peel brings more than 20 years of experience in education, with a background that includes classroom teaching, school leadership, human resources and district administration.
"I am honored for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District," said Peel. "I look forward to working alongside our students, staff, families, and community partners to continue preparing students for successful futures."
He began his career as a Spanish teacher in North Carolina, teaching at both the high school and college levels before moving into school administration.
After relocating to Delaware, Peel joined Sussex Central High School in 2006 as assistant principal. In 2008, he moved to Sussex Technical High School as assistant principal and was later promoted to supervisor of support services. He left Sussex Tech in 2012 after being named principal of Polytech High School, according to the district.
In 2016, Peel joined the Milford School District as director of secondary education before later serving as director of human resources and school climate.
Peel returned to the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District in 2023 as director of human resources and support services. After Carson announced his retirement, Peel applied for the superintendent position and was selected following the district's interview process.
Peel earned a Doctor of Education in policy and administration from the University of Delaware, a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Arts in Spanish language and literature from Middlebury College, and a Bachelor of Arts from Elon University.
Peel will officially take the position on Sept. 1.
