ONLEY, Va. – A 16-year-old was taken into custody after authorities said he claimed to make a bomb threat at Nandua High School in Accomack County.
According to the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report around 9:53 a.m. on Friday, May 2 that a teen had made threats involving explosives at the school. School officials evacuated students and staff before deputies arrived. The building was secured as authorities assessed the threat.
The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says specialized K-9 units searched the school and found no explosive devices. Authorities say the threat was determined to be a hoax.
The 16-year-old was charged with one count of making a bomb threat and taken to the Norfolk Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. According to the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the community or the school system.
