The future of Marijuana in Dagsboro

Dagsboro could be the next Sussex County town to put a ban on the production and sale of marijuana in town.

DAGSBORO, Del. - The Dagsboro Town Council voted to ban the sale and production of marijuana in town on Monday night. Other towns, like Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach already have a ban in place.

Cathy Flowers, who lives in Dagsboro told CoastTV she is against the sale of Marijuana in town because she worries it could lead to more frequent drug related problems.

"I am opposed to the sale of marijuana in town. It's a small town, and we have enough issues with drugs in this town without adding to it," explained Flowers.

Terry Coffin, who also lives in Dagsboro, is on the fence about the issue.

"I have a son who is retired from the military who uses it for medical purposes, so it does help prevent people from getting into the narcotics side of things for pain killing." Coffin continued, "The fact of the matter is, where will people be able to get it for medical purposes if local towns have already spoked out against it."

Coffin told CoastTV he knows there are many pros and cons to the drug, and he worries about people who use it recklessly, like alcohol.

Dagsboro's neighbor, Millsboro, will have a public hearing about a marijuana ban there in early November.
