The house was occupied at the time of the fire. The residents were evacuating when they noticed a pile of mulch on fire, which had spread into a nearby tree and then to the home, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Deputy state fire marshals determined the fire originated in the mulch pile and was caused by natural spontaneous combustion. The flames spread to and damaged three additional single-family homes. The total damage is estimated at $1 million.
