SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - A weekend of celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is coming to Sussex County in January. From Friday, Jan 12 to Monday, Jan. 15 there will be a diverse array of events across various venues.
Friday, Jan. 12
Beginning at 7 p.m., The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice will present an inspirational musical celebration titled, “MLK: From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter” at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. CoastTV's very own Chief Meteorologist Paul Williams will emcee this event.
Attendees can expect a showcase featuring local artists performing music of the '60s and '70s civil rights movements, along with gospel, soul and praise dance.
Tickets for this event are priced at $25, and children under 12 can attend for free with reserved tickets. Proceeds from ticket sales will support SDARJ initiatives, including scholarships, academic recognition, criminal justice reform, Black Voices Magazine, and racial reconciliation workshops.

Saturday, Jan. 13
Continuing the celebration on Saturday is the annual banquet of The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Organization. The banquet will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the CHEER Center in Georgetown.
The keynote address will be delivered by State Rep. Stell Parker Selby.
Monday, Jan. 15
Wrapping up the weekend's events, the MLK Celebration Organization will host a Holiday Community Worship Service. The service will begin at 10 a.m. at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
