WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- Worcester County is asking people who live and work in the area to share their concerns and experiences as the county updates its Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The Worcester County Department of Emergency Services says it will hold two public meetings in September as part of the planning process. The meetings are designed to gather community input about hazards, risks and ways to make local communities safer.

The upcoming meetings are:
  • Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company
  • Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Berlin Branch Library

The county held two public meetings in August and is continuing to seek input before completing the updated plan.

According to the county, the Hazard Mitigation Plan will examine potential hazards affecting Worcester County and identify strategies for reducing risks. The plan also will address ways to protect critical infrastructure and other important community assets.

“Preparing for hazards starts with listening to residents,” Assistant Chief of Emergency Management Katy Vieira said. “You know your neighborhoods best. When you share your experiences, you help us understand real risks and identify the strategies that will make Worcester County safer and stronger.”
