Georgetown to Lewes Trail Progresses

The Georgetown to Lewes Trail project is moving forward, with construction on the section from Fisher Road to Airport Road expected to begin in June 2025.

DelDOT officials confirmed that the contract award has been fully executed, and contract documents will soon be signed. The project is anticipated to be completed by July 2026. Once finished, this section will complete the full trail connection between Georgetown and Lewes.

MLK Pathway Faces Funding Uncertainty

The Martin Luther King Boulevard-South Little Creek Road bicycle and pedestrian connector project, which received a $12.25 million RAISE grant in July 2024, is facing funding challenges. A federal freeze on discretionary grant funds has stalled authorization and obligation of federal funds, including those allocated for the MLK Pathway.

Despite this, DelDOT is continuing with the project’s design phase, using available funds to develop preliminary plans. Officials anticipate receiving additional funds to cover further planning and development costs. However, if funding clarity is not provided by mid-April, the project’s original timeline may be affected.
