GEORGETOWN, Del. - Construction of the Sussex County Family Court facility in Georgetown, which began in 2022, may see minimized work right now according to a report by Georgetown town manager Gene Dvornick with no answer on whether or not there will be a delay for the expected completion date.
Despite this, some locals are viewing the extended timeline with indifference, finding ways to adapt to the ongoing work.
Harry Lopez, who works at Manlove Auto Parts just across the street from the site, says any delay simply means more business for him. "I wouldn't complain at all because it's definitely more business. And who knows, maybe these people out here working at the court might also want to buy some stuff from us," Lopez said, emphasizing that the construction hasn't disrupted his work.
Jerry Crump, a Georgetown local and daily bus rider, also expressed little concern. "It's not affecting me. I take the bus, and sometimes I walk, so when I walk through, there's no issue of me needing to get to where I need to go," Crump said.
Sean O'Sullivan with Delaware Courts also told CoastTV that he doesn't see any reason a delay would occur, and if any did, it would be a miniscule one at that.
The roughly three-year project is nearing completion, but there is still a little more time before the final touches are made and the doors open up.
