The Delaware Forest Service issued a statement urging people to be careful when doing controlled burns. This comes after the National Weather Service, in collaboration with state wildfire supervisors, issued a special weather statement over the weekend indicating an elevated fire risk due to dropping humidity levels and high winds across the region, including Delaware.
The Nature Conservancy will conduct a controlled burn at the Edward H. McCabe Preserve in Milton. A specially trained crew will oversee the burn, which will only take place under specific weather conditions outlined in the organization's Burn Plan.
In 2023 more acres of land were burned by wildfires in the state of Maryland than the 10-year average.
The building, a detached garage on McColleys Chapel Road, was unoccupied at the time.
