Hurricane season officially begins June 1, and Sussex County emergency officials are encouraging people to prepare now for potential tropical weather impacts.
Recently, people on Delmarva have received at least two tornado warnings, multiple sever thunderstorm warnings and an increase in flash flood warning. July is peak hurricane season however, tornadoes can hit at any time.
The 2024 hurricane season ends on Nov. 30 with 17 named storms, including 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes.
Hurricane season is upon us and as the Lewes Board of Public Works stated in their most recent meeting, it is imperative that action is taken now to protect the city's electrical system. On June 26, the Lewes BPW discussed the fear for its electrical infrastructure as Lewes BPW President, Thomas Panetta, said how coastal storms are coming sooner.
