A major new housing development near Milton is moving forward under the name Carey Farm, with plans to build 385 homes on a 192-acre parcel of farmland and forestland adjacent to the town limits. On Dec. 2, the Preliminary Land Use Service meeting prompted state and local agencies to weigh in on infrastructure, public safety and environmental considerations for the development.
Plans are underway to transform an empty field off Route 24 into a retail shopping center, but not everyone is convinced more businesses are needed along the busy road.
The 2023 report on state planning issues shows that Sussex County has seen a one-year increase in development applications of 101 percent. This is the highest level of developer interest in the Sussex County residential market since 2008.
