Petition launched against Ocean City rental restrictions
The Ocean City Council has approved two proposals tightening regulations on short-term rentals.
The cost of staying in Ocean City's hotels might soon rise, following discussions by the Senate's Budget and Taxation Committee last Wednesday to increase the hotel rental tax rate from 5 to 6 percent.
Senate Bill 99 disallows municipalities from requiring that landlords evict tenants based on their involvement in the justice system. If passed, landlords will still have the ability to choose to evict a tenant for criminal activity or other lease violations. This bill just prevents making those evictions mandatory.
This past weekend, power was turned off at 16A Houston Street leaving tenants in the dark and without appliances working.
