Former State Representative Ruth Briggs King announced Saturday her campaign to become Delaware’s next lieutenant governor. King was elected to the Delaware State House of Representatives in 2009 and served until 2023. The Delaware Republican Party has given King their endorsement.
The December special election for the 37th district state representative seat results in the Indian River School District (IRSD) closing schools on December 21.
According to the school district, Delaware law mandates the closure of public schools serving as polling places for state elections.
Jane Hovington will be the Democratic nominee in the upcoming special election to fill the vacancy in House District 37. The seat was opened last week when former Rep. Ruth Briggs King moved out of the district.
