As people charge into Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start to the summer season here along the coast you may have missed a story or two throughout the week. To help you get caught up with the things happening on Delmarva this is your Week In Review.
MONDAY: A partial closure of Cave Neck Road started rerouting drivers in the Milton area. According to the Delaware Department of Transportation construction work on a bridge that is more than 100 years old will keep that closure in place through the month of August.
TUESDAY: Gov. Matt Meyer signed House Bill 140 into law, granting terminally ill adults the right to seek medical aid in dying, commonly referred to as assisted suicide. The legislation applies to patients with six months or less to live and includes strict eligibility requirements and safeguards.
WEDNESDAY: Jaywalking in Dewey Beach will now cost more. On Wednesday, the town council approved an increase in the fine for failing to use a crosswalk. The new penalty is set at $50.
THURSDAY: A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new Rehoboth Beach Patrol Station. Under construction since December 2023, the facility is fully ADA accessible and features 96 lockers for staff. The project’s final cost was $5.5 million—$750,000 over budget.
FRIDAY: Lewes community members received an update on Tharros Village, a proposed structured homeless community off Coastal Highway. Earlier in the week, the public had an opportunity to share feedback and learn more about the project’s next steps.
