DELAWARE/MARYLAND - Maryland State Police arrested two people after an Amber Alert was issued Tuesday night for 3-year-old Nola Dinkins. The child's mother is charged with murder.
The child, Nola Dinkens, was reported missing Tuesday night after her mother claimed a man with a gun took her from a vehicle on Gender Road in Newark. But after an overnight investigation involving New Castle County Police, the FBI, and Maryland State Police, authorities determined the mother’s story was false.
Maryland State Police have since arrested Darrian Randle, 31, and Cedrick Antoine Britten, 44, both of North East, Maryland. Randle is facing charges including first- and second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. He remains in custody in Delaware awaiting extradition. Britten is charged with accessory to murder, failure to report a child’s death, and related offenses. He is being held in Maryland.
On Wednesday afternoon, investigators found human remains believed to be a young child in a vacant lot in North East, Maryland. Positive identification is pending autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
Officials say the case remains under active investigation, led by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit with support from New Castle County Police and the FBI.
Authorities continue to emphasize there is no ongoing threat to the public.
