DELAWARE -The Delaware Senate has passed a resolution directing the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association to help determine if there is an imbalance between public and private school athletic success.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 91 instructs the DIAA to review five years of state championship data and evaluate the performance of private schools in sanctioned sports events. The goal is to assess competitive fairness and develop policy recommendations based on findings from the Public-Private Committee report.
The resolution comes amid concerns that private schools, with greater resources and recruiting flexibility, are consistently outperforming public schools in a variety of sports. Lawmakers say the review is needed to ensure equitable competition for all student-athletes.
Private schools captured 10 state titles during the 2024-2025 school year. The DIAA has until April 30, 2026, to submit its findings and recommendations to the Delaware General Assembly.
