LEWES, Del. - Belmead Farm, LLC has applied for a zoning change for the property along John J. Williams Highway in Lewes, Sussex County. The company is seeking to rezone the land from an Agricultural Residential (AR-1) District to a Planned Commercial (C-4) District.

The property, located about 0.31 miles southwest of Mulberry Knoll Road, would allow for commercial development if the rezoning request is approved.

The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission is currently reviewing the application. A decision on the rezoning has not yet been made as the publishing of this article.

"I'm going to tell the planning commission tonight it's time that the planning Commission stops being an oxymoron. And they start putting the word planning, back into our community," said Steve Kittka.

Nancy Kohler also expressed her concerns, stating, "Very concerned. The traffic on Route 24 right now is really almost unsustainable. And if they do that, they're talking about over 6000 additional vehicles per day."

One man, who wished to remain anonymous, told Coast TV, "Growth is inevitable." He also noted that at one point, his neighborhood was a horse farm.
