New plan to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety in Bethany Beach

A few of the options presented at the meeting included lower speed limits and more crosswalks at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 26, as well as a crosswalk on Route 26 near DiFebo's Restaurant.

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - Coastal towns along Delmarva want people on two wheels and two feet to be safe as heading into the busy season. With that idea in mind, Bethany Beach held a bicycle and pedestrian safety presentation on Thursday.

"We're all doing things that are a little bit unique and different we're also doing things that are very similar," Mickey Hinman, one of the Bethany Beach Town Councilors told CoastTV. "So, understanding where those sort of, sweet points are of us to be able to build and think about the opportunities in the upcoming seasons, right. I think we all learned a lot from what we heard."

A few of the options presented at the meeting included lower speed limits and more crosswalks at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 26, as well as a crosswalk on Route 26 near DiFebo's Restaurant.

Representatives from other nearby cities and towns, including Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, were invited to present at the public question-and-answer event. The goal of this meeting was to share ideas for improving safety and to listen to locals who had their own thoughts on how to protect cyclists, runners and walkers once the traffic of the summer season picks up.
