Georgetown, Del.– The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) has set a new record for its Mega Adoption Event, with a heartwarming total of 1,141 pets finding forever homes over the weekend. The event, spanning all BVSPCA locations and involving nine additional shelter partners across four states, saw families from across the region opening their hearts and homes to 579 dogs, 560 cats, and 2 other animals.

This Mega Adoption Event, the fifteenth of its kind, was conducted in collaboration with national non-profit Petco Love, BOBS from Skechers®, and co-sponsored by Discover. Over the past eight years, these events have successfully placed nearly 16,000 animals in loving homes. The adopted animals ranged from playful puppies and kittens to wise seniors and long-time shelter residents at various BVSPCA campuses and partner shelters.

BVSPCA Chief Executive Officer, Adam Lamb, expressed his excitement about the tremendous success of the two-day event, saying, “What an amazing two days for pets in need. So many families came out to give these great companions a second chance, and not just at our campuses, but to all the partners who joined our cause. Updates from families are flooding in, sharing their new cat or dog’s first hours at home, and their stories of how this has changed their lives too.”

The Mega Adoption Event took place at BVSPCA locations in West Chester, Plymouth Meeting, New Castle, Dover, Georgetown, and at the Animal Rescue Center. Additionally, several other shelter partners contributed to the success of the weekend, including ACCT Philly, Animal Adoption Center (AAC), Animal Care Shelter for Kent County in Maryland, Animal Rescue League of Berks County, BARCS in Maryland, Faithful Friends Animal Society, Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center, Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, and Montgomery County Animal Shelter (TX), who transported animals to participate.

Lamb expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort, stating, “We’re grateful to be able to help other shelters tap into the adoption potential in this region, particularly shelters in areas where there are more homeless pets than adopters.”
