GEORGETOWN, Del. - With July 4 around the corner, the Brandywine SPCA has created safety tips so that family pets can enjoy the holiday.

  1. Check to make sure your Pet's ID tags and Microchips are up to date.
  2. Keep your pets secure by making sure that your homes don't have loose window screens, fence gaps, or places where panicked pets could escape.
  3. Exercise your pets in order to tire them out when the fireworks start.
  4. Give your pet a comfort item like a blanket or a special toy.
  5. Celebrations last more than one day, be prepared after the 4th for any more fireworks.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA campuses will be closed for the July 4 holiday, and they will reopen on Saturday, July 5 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
